Let’s make it a little more dramatic and emphasize the light-to-dark contrast. In this background, the shading, which starts lighter at the top and gets darker toward the bottom, is pretty subtle. One big change is that because it is a dark background, the slide text is now white or light gray. I’ll click through the slides to see how it looks. ![]() It is really more of a blue-gray, but we’ll call it blue. These bottom four are gradient backgrounds, which means they fade from lighter at the top to darker at the bottom. You can see the background’s preview on the slide, when I point to it. These top two rows are solid-color backgrounds. They are designed to complement and offer good contrast to the text and other theme colors. These additional 12 backgrounds - six light and six dark - are other options for a background that goes with the Office theme. Then, I’ll click the More arrow and point to Background Styles. To get the best view of these, let’s display the Title Slide because it shows more background. I have more choices just for the background. Notice that with these backgrounds, the body text is white. ![]() The other two variants give a black background, with two different color schemes. It keeps the white background and only changes the color scheme you see that is illustrated in the chart colors. I am going to select this chart slide to help illustrate the differences in these theme variants. These three thumbnails on the right are variants to the current theme. To consider a different background, I should first look over in the Variants group. What I’d like for this theme is a background with more color. It also shows here, on the left, because it is the theme that is currently applied. Just so you know, the Office Theme is this thumbnail in the Themes gallery. Working from the basic Office theme, which has a white background, let’s get more familiar with choosing a different background for a theme. One way to personalize a theme is to change its background. ![]()

![]() But like the JK lamps, they have plastic lenses that will eventually fog up and cloud over. He likes them better than the weak old original sealed beams. When I was done with the set I had on my test bench, I sold 'em to my across-the-street neighbour for his '74 Valiant. It is a poorer performer than the JK lamp, but again, it's safe and legal. ![]() ![]() Or use a set of Hummer H2 headlamps (a Visteon-made unit with a #9007 bulb, also sold by Truck-Lite with the adaptor pigtail) is also a direct swap for sealed beams. If you use the JK headlamp, use this H13 bulb. Use only original Chrysler ones aftermarket OE-style replacement headlights (all of them) are trash. A lot of JK owners hate those lamps and swap them out for good H4s scrounge around on the Jeep JK forums and you may find a pair of the JK lamps for cheap money. The current Jeep Wrangler (JK) has pretty headlights, and they are a direct swap in place of a 7" sealed beam (except for the socket, different for their H13 bulb than for the standard sealed beam or H4 type socket.you can get a good H13 socket here and a "looks like the back of a sealed beam or H4" plug from the same company here add a few bits of wire to create the needed adaptor pigtail), and they're certainly adequate, legal, and safe. If you are looking for a modern-appearing headlamp (i.e., with a window-clear lens and jeweled optic reflector): No blue/purple/other tint, which just blocks light that would otherwise reach the road. If you do try out any replaceable-bulb headlight, make sure the bulb has uncoloured clear glass. Off-brand H4 lamps (anything not made by Cibie, Marchal, Carello, Hella, Bosch, Koito, Stanley, or Ichikoh) are a bad bet. The human visual system is a rotten judge of its own performance it's really easy to create situations that make us feel we can see a lot better (or not nearly as well) as we think we can. ![]() Headlight performance is very tricky to judge…headlights that create the subjective impression of "wow, these are great" (or even just "yeah, these are OK") aren't necessarily good-or even adequate-for minimal safety performance. Check out my Lagniappe article on how to peel tomatoes. You can use canned dice tomatoes or fresh tomatoes that are very ripe, peeled, and seeded. Note on Tomatoes: I used canned whole tomatoes in developing this recipe. Frozen okra does not need to be defrosted before cooking, but make sure there is no ice attached to the okra. Note on Okra: Use fresh or frozen okra for this recipe. Here are some of the key ingredients for this recipe: Ingredient Notes This Smothered Okra and Tomatoes recipe’s long slow cooking method and the acid provided by the tomatoes eliminate any slime and render the okra tender and flavorful. Okra also freezes well, eliminating all of its perceived challenges. Young, fresh okra can be tender and delicious and the sliminess can be cooked away. It can be slimy, which is off-putting to many people, and it can be tough and woody if left on the plant too long. Okra is one of those fringe vegetables (it is technically a fruit, but we will leave that for now) that many people view with a wary eye. The African word for okra is a derivative of the West African term “gombo” which was adulterated into gumbo and eventually became embedded in Creole culinary nomenclature. It was a common vegetable in slave gardens and most likely added to French bouillabaisse as a thickener. Okra’s popularity in South Louisiana dates back to the West African slaves and was likely introduced during the French colonial days in the early 1700s. Sweet Daddy D's Smothered Okra and Tomatoes This recipe is perfect with fresh or frozen okra and can be served as a main course or as a side dish. Smoked ham and South Louisiana seasonings round out a comforting flavor. This simple recipe smothers tender okra, yellow onions, and tomatoes in their own juices. Stewed or Smothered Okra, a traditional favorite of Creole and Cajun cooks, clearly fits in the South Louisiana comfort food category. The tangy harissa (or Sriracha chili sauce) adds great dimension to the fresh tomato sauce. You’ll linger on familiar memories with the first bite of Sweet Daddy D’s Smothered Okra and Tomatoes. Depending on the variety, if the pods are much longer they are going to be tough, woody, and dry. For the best results, choose fresh okra pods no longer than 4 inches in length. Light enough for a main dish on a summer evening, you can also serve it with fish or grilled chicken. This easy and delicious recipe for Okra and Chickpeas in Fresh Tomato Sauce, developed by chef and cookbook author Virginia Willis, is ready for the table in just thirty minutes. One of the more traditional ways to cook okra is to partner it with onions and fresh tomatoes. Okra, an important member of the canon of Southern foods, can be fried, stewed, sautéed, and roasted. Others, like okra, don't just thrive, but seem to revel in the weather, growing ever taller as the thermometer spikes. Some plants wilt in the heat and humidity of a Southern summer, unable to bear up under the blistering sun and suffocating humidity. ![]() ![]() ![]() Step 3: Generate your Honda Odyssey Radio Code To discover your complete 8-digit code, simply disregard the letters and combine the two sets of numbers.įor example, combining U2051 and L5641 produce 20515641 as the serial number. If you own a model Odyssey, your VIN can be located on the driver's side door jamb, or in the glove box. I'm not familiar with that process or how much that costs.Step 1: Where to find your Honda Odyssey VIN Otherwise you'll need to get the code from the dealer. I'm sure there are used ones out there but that code is important. If all that is good, replace the Nav Unit.Įach Nav Unit has it's own anti-theft code so you need that code to make it work when you install it. You just want to check the wiring first which means checking each of the power wires and each of the ground wires, and you'd want to make sure that the signal wires from the Nav Unit to the Display Unit are not broken. From your descriptions it's pretty apparent it's the Nav Unit. The scope would be necessary to look at the outputs to the display unit. If those are good then usually the module, in this case the Nav Unit, is the problem. Generally, if a module is not working, you check all the power wires and all the ground wires to make sure those are good. Checking powers and grounds just means you check all the power and ground wires going to the nav unit. If you can see the backlight then the service manual says to replace the Nav Unit under the seat.Ĭhecking powers and grounds doesn't require a scope. I'm guessing you'll have backlighting since it works when folded down for the cupholder message. If nothing is displayed then shade the display from the sun and see if the backlight comes on. If that displays then go into the Nav System Link Diagnosis section and check all the links. Normally, you'd see the diagnosis screen displayed. ![]() Use a jumper wire across that connector and then turn on the key. There is a way, however, to force start the display and then you can have the display check it's inputs (if the Nav Unit will light it up.) On the back of the Nav unit itself is a 2-pin connector that is not connected to anything. If powers and grounds check out OK it most likely needs a new Nav unit. If nothing there then I'd probably check powers and grounds with a scope or meter. If I were working on this car I'd probably scope the wires going to/from the nav unit and the nav display to see if the Nav unit is outputting anything. That would explain why you get the cup holder message displayed but nothing from the reverse camera or the Nav unit. The Audio CD changer outputs directly to the Nav display and doesn't go through the Nav Unit. That unit takes all the inputs from gauge cluster, climate control, reverse signal, vehicle speed sensor, PCM, and voice control and then outputs to the Nav display. The Navigation Unit is the box (DVD player) that contains the Nav DVD. I don't recall for sure where it is on the 05-06 but I think it's in the same place. In looking at the diagrams and reading the system operation description, it appears your issue is going to be the Navigation unit (or possibly the wiring in between.) On the 07 and up it's the DVD player under the driver's seat. We plan on checking the fuses when it is daylight tomorrow but not quite sure which ones to check. I tried to push the talk button to get the system to turn on but it is silent with no beeps. I reinserted it and it is still black screened. I checked the Nav dvd drive under the seat and took out the maps dvd and it is authentic with no scratches or fingerprints. The door opens when accessing the CD and the screen displays the warning message not to use it as a cup holder. Sooo, now that we know we SHOULD have a nav system.we'd like to try and troubleshoot it. We decided to purchase the vehicle anyway because we weren't aware there was a navigation system in the first place (and the price was great)! He tried to troubleshoot it but could not get it to come back on. The car salesman told us when we got there that the Nav/backup screen went blank a few days ago but was working perfectly before that. I've searched a few threads but hoping for some fresh answers. ![]() ![]() Rubenstein is Chairman of the Boards of the John F. If you can do the job, there will be a set of visible timing marks somewhere on the motor, most often on the end of the crankshaft pulley. It should probably bear the words “Hands off!” Unless you’ve got a computer, you aren’t going to adjust the timing on that baby. Lifting the hood just presents you with a big lump of featureless plastic. Many motors built since the 1990s have no distributor or spark plug cables. Most motors built since the 1980s have electronic or breakerless ignition. The first thing you need to do is establish whether the job can be done. With older vehicles, it could just be because your engine shakes a fair bit! Whatever the cause, things aren’t running as they should. Classic and collectors’ vehicles often have points in the distributor that need changing sooner or later. The timing chain stretches out eventually. General wear and tear can cause your timing to run out. As one expert put it, on a V8 engine, it looks a bit like a rubber octopus! ![]() Older vehicles use a distributor that has spark plug cables sprouting out in all directions. In a gasoline engine, ignition timing sends an electric current to each spark plug at precise time intervals and in a predetermined sequence (diesel engines don’t have spark plugs). If you have the right setup, these tools can also be used for bench testing. Your engine doesn’t have to be in the vehicle to check its timing. We’ve also included a number of recommendations that showcase the variety of high-quality, great-value tools available. To help clarify the important timing light features, we’ve put together this comprehensive buying guide. The not so good news is that if you’re looking to buy your first timing light, the capabilities and jargon can be a bit confusing. All those things add up to excess stress on the engine - and your wallet! The good news is that there are plenty of timing lights to choose from, and something for any budget. If your spark plug timing is off, all kinds of things can go wrong, from difficulty starting, poor acceleration, and an overall drop in performance to backfiring, strange “pinging” noises, and higher gas consumption. Checking and setting the timing correctly isn’t a complicated job for the home mechanic as long as you have an accurate timing light. That firing is controlled by the ignition timing. In order for your engine to run properly, the spark plugs have to fire at exactly the right moment. ![]() ![]() ![]() SPF has a shorter span of 5’ 11 with 16 spacing.
